What do your mornings look like? Do they involve sipping coffee or tea, watching the news, running about trying to find clean clothes, or slowly waking up to the sounds of nature?   At the Willis house, it usually involves the same routine everyday.  Key word; USUALLY!  Consistency is key with two kids, two and under.  It helps them to know what to expect.  When I decided to document our lives, I promised myself I would stay real.  Here is a peak of how our mornings run.

Me Time

Some (very few) mornings, I will go workout at 5 am!  Getting up is the hardest part, although once I get there, it really charges me up.  Something about sweating profusely with 10 plus other people, makes me happier.  I will return home around 6:15 and Dustin will usually be standing in the kitchen fixing his coffee and morning breakfast… Cheerios.  If the little ones don’t wake up with all the noise in the kitchen, I have about 45 minutes to myself.  This time is extremely flexible and where I can think my own thoughts.  I get dressed for the day, fix my coffee, and pray.  Pray, pray, pray… we need this daily. I need this daily!

Rise and Shine

M & M awaken anywhere from 6:45 to 7:30ish. Maddox is usually the first. If I didn’t go workout, he comes in our room and gives the sweetest morning kisses.  When Miles wakes up, Maddox and I rush to his room chanting, “Good Morning Miles… We are coming!”  I grab Miles and we sit on his floor; we all hug and sing a song I learned at church camp when I was in elementary school.

“Rise and shine and give God the glory, glory

Rise and Shine and give God the glory, glory

Rise. And. Shine. And. give God the glory, glory, children of the LORD”

With both kids, we have snuggle time when they wake up.  I get all my kisses and hugs before our day even starts.

Breakfast of Champions

“I wanna watch Mickey Mouse now, Momma.”  This is my clue to get breakfast ready.  Maddox will bring the remote and then sit on the rug, waiting to be entertained by a singing mouse and his random animal friends.  I mean, have you ever thought of the animals on this show? Anyways… Miles will stay on my hip while I “cook” breakfast.  I fix two sippy cups of milk and two bowls of Cheerios.  I go through two family size boxes a week.

Both boys will sit down for 25 whole minutes (usually).  If I already had coffee, I can focus on washing clothes, washing dishes, getting their clothes ready for the day, or shamelessly scroll through Instagram. Although, most days I just sit down to drink my coffee with them, on the floor.  Soaking in every moment I can, while I can.

Side note:  I used to say, “I will never be the mom who sits their children in front of the TV.”

We get Cheerios EVERYWHERE… no really everywhere.  I vacuum a few times a day just to get the them up.  If I don’t Miles will eat them all.  We find them all over the house throughout the day.

Dressing Wild Animals

Brushing their teeth is sometimes a challenge.  We sing yet another tune to brush our teeth.  We first let M &M brush them independently while we count to twenty.  (We count to thirty at night.)  Maddox knows how to count to thirty because we incorporated this activity into our day.  Yup… I am still a teacher at heart.  It also allows him to practice brushing his teeth alone. Once he is done, we then take over and sing another tune.  Dustin started this chant!  I spice it up with different colors.  This allows it to become fun.  Miles is just along for the ride!

“Brush your teeth, brush your teeth till their all white!”

Maddox has his bad days.  Most days he wants to put the entire tube of toothpaste on the brush.  Not because he wants his teeth super clean.  He just wants to eat it.

“Did you go brush your teeth again?”, I question calmly.

“Yup,” responds small toddler.

“Did you swallow any toothpaste?” asked concerned parent.

“Yup,” replies smiling child.

I have caught him multiply times with pink gunk on his face and arms. I need to put this up high.  Maybe a suction cup tray on the mirror to keep it out of reach.

Finally

We get dressed according to what our day’s schedule looks like.  For instance, the boys went to their sitter.  They didn’t dress fancy, but Maddox insisted to wear his “church” shoes.  What does it hurt?  Nothing.  So what does this mom do?  Allow him to wear them.

I have learned that keeping a routine helps them and me.  Now the rest of our day is total chaos!  Just kidding, but no really.  We have schedules, but they are just ideas to what MAY happen.  I am a work in progress in this area!

Enjoy your chaos!

Bless your heart,

Chelse

7!! I need to learn from you. Do you have a blog or a place I can follow along? I am always looking for other moms to learn from. Sock: I did read once where a mom just bought a different solid color for each kid. So each child could find them easier. I want to do that just for me!
